Good evening all. We are a couple of months on from my last update which by now you should all have reached the end of, so here comes the next one! This is my โlittleโ review of the time in between and a few club updates along the way. Stick with me ๐
I will start again by mentioning some of the events we have taken part in together recently.
๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐
The list of events we have reached as a team again would be too long to detail so I will attempt to just pick a few highlights across the summer months.
There were a few following the last update in July to start withโฆ
๐๐๐น๐
We finished off July by taking on the Cornwood 10k. A cracking event as always and we had over 30 Stormies out in the village to take part that evening. This was followed up a week later by a great bunch of our team heading down to Central Park run to celebrate Mike Toddโs remarkable achievement marking his 250th ParkRun! ๐๐ป
๐๐๐ด๐๐๐
We started the month of August with a bang as some of our speedsters headed to the South Devon 3k relays. The Storm Mixers finished as 1st placed mixed team on the night ๐ช๐ป๐ฅ ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Totnes followed this up the week later and on a hot and humid day we had a cracking group take on the 10k+๐. We even had two brand new little stormies smashing the fun run that day ๐๐๐ป
Next up came the Dartmoor Crossing Ultra Marathon and The Great Escape. These are two gruelling runs across the moors and we had a few runners in each event. Everyone smashed it on the day despite some very iffy conditions across the moors. ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
To finish the month we had another very successful Storm takeover at the Armada 5k. Lots showed up to support the event and plenty ended up running too! It was very much appreciated by the Armada guys so thanks to all who volunteered. ๐๐ป
On top of all this we had runners at the Indian Queens Half, the Ivybridge 3Tops 10k, Tavy 5k and even the Scottish Half Marathon! Iโm sure I have missed one or two there too! Well done to all who smashed August in some very warm conditions ๐ฅต๐ช๐ป๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ป

Again Storm was straight out of the blocks for September! In the 1st of the month two fantastic events awaited our runners. The City To Sea half and full marathons have a special place in our clubs history as many of our members have tackled this challenge. Yet again, we had plenty taking on the challenge including some completing their first ever marathon (what a race to choose!!)! Not only did we have so many outstanding achievements up there on the day we also had the most fantastic support crew there for our runners. Well done to all involved ๐๐๐ป
As this was all happening up in South Devon another group headed down to Launceston to take on the brilliant Treggy 7 event. Everyone that did this one enjoyed the race and specifically the final few miles into the castle. Hopefully next year this doesnโt clash with anything as itโll be great to get a load of purple down there. ๐ช๐ป๐
The following week was the world famous Great North Run which saw a handful of Stormies head from Newcastle to South Shields taking part in the biggest half on the planet. Itโs an amazing event and one hopefully we get a few more at again next year ๐๐ป๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Then of course this weekend we have had two more of our favourites come around. There were around 25 Storm runners out at the warhorse 10k event in Iddlesleigh and then another group of ladies up at the Newton Abbott Ladies 10k. The conditions were not great yesterday so well done to all who took part. Shout out to our two speedy ladies Charlene and Lauren who both finished Second Lady in their respective events ๐ช๐ป๐๐๐ป.
Throw in a Dartmoor Volcano, Truro Half Marathon, Barney to Beach, another Armada 5k, parkruns all over and our Jane all the way over in Sydney completing the Sydney Marathon and it shows it was another very busy month for our team ๐๐ป๐๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Special mention to all of Stormโs Swimmers that took on the swim around Drakes island at the weekend too! ๐๐๐ป๐๐ปโโ๏ธ

๐ Julyโs award was won by Caitlin Hodges for completing a ridiculous amount of miles and being a great inspiration to others during the Hope 24 festivals.
๐Paula Tapp and Lizzie Holden won a joint award in August as they couldnโt be split in the vote after both of their heroic efforts at the Dartmoor Crossing Ultra.
๐พWe also brought back an old favourite โ the special recognition bottle of Prosecco! August special recognition award was won by a very deserving Joe Murphy who had been practically everywhere this summer representing Storm on all the trails ๐๐ป

We have recently had many new faces join Storm and I would like to personally welcome you all to the club. I really hope you have enjoyed your experience so far and I look forward to meeting you all.
Itโs entirely your choice, but we would love you to be a member of our club. It only costs ยฃ19 for the year and you will save money in the long run. You will also get ยฃ2 off any race entries and the chance to vote on club matters. ๐

There have been some very popular club nights in recent months and the return of some old storm faces to the club. The Beginners group has played a huge part in this and seems to be attracting new runners to the club. Well done to all involved and all that have ran in that group so far. As a reminder itโs not just a beginners group. We are calling this a Back to Basics group as this is designed for all runners to drop into and work on running technique that they may have lost over the years. ๐ช๐ป
In other news, we saw the triumphant return of the Tuesday Morning group now that term time is back and the Monday Morning Crew and Friday Montpelier group continue as always but have been a little low on numbers of late. Be great to see a few more turn up if you can make it ๐๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ.

For those who were not sure, these sessions are put on and planned by our fully qualified Coaches In Running Fitness (CIRF) in order to aid with your training. Distance running is not all about purely putting hard miles in all the time. Your body needs that strength and conditioning to be able to cope with the distance and impact you are putting your body through.
Circuits with Coaches Neil/Ash on a Saturday morning every other week and Condition Fit with coach Bee will aid your running like you wouldnโt believe. Stick with it for a few weeks and you wonโt believe the difference and improvement in your running. Sign up on the app under Coached Fitness Sessions. ๐ช๐ป

This month saw a huge collection of old running medals from the team as we aim to support โMedals For Kidsโ in association with runr. Thank you again to all that have supplied medals. I know Bee has a couple of boxes full and has had to rethink the delivery method ๐๐
๐๐ป
This month we are looking for as many Toys as you could possibly offer, as we are collecting for Childrenโs Storehouse. Bee will be collecting at ROM so if you have any, please bring them along. ๐งธ

On the social side of things, our Social Committee are working hard in the background to make sure we all have a great evening again just like last year at our annual glitzy Storm Awards Night! ๐๐๐
Deposits and payments are beginning to pick up speed but we would still love to see exactly how many bums on seats we are looking at to make sure itโs going to be worthwhile. Please can you all try to declare your intentions either by paying a deposit for a ticket, paying in full or just messaging Keith asap just to say if youโll definitely be going and when youโll be paying deposit. We can budget more effectively if we know who is coming. We know we have asked a lot with Bournemouth around the corner and all the events lately but we really donโt want anyone to miss the big night!!
For those who havenโt been to one of these evenings beforeโฆโฆAbsolutely everyone is welcome. Anyone who runs with us
(you donโt have to be a member), your partners and families or friends can all get a ticket. Itโs always a fantastic night with live entertainment, recognition for some of our deserving stormies and lots of great feeling in the room. You even get a speech from me to look forward too ๐ด
There may also be a few drinkies and dancing too. I think itโs well worth the ticket money alone to see our Gill, Wendy and โThe Golden Girlsโ raving to 90โs house music on the dance floor and everyone enjoying themselves ๐๐ป๐๐พ๐ป๐บ๐พ๐๐
Well done so far and thank you to the social guys for all their hard work ๐๐๐ป๐บ๐พ๐

Our Captains ๐จ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ฉ๐ปโโ๏ธhave again been hosting their Storm Cuppaโs โ๏ธ each month. These have had terrific turnouts so thank you to all that have been coming to these to date, showing support for your captains and the venues โ itโs always great to catch up!๐
On a slightly sombre note, October will be the last month that we have Charlene and Dave as skippers! On October 1st we will be advertising for 2 new captains as their stint comes to an end on the 1st Nov. Iโm sure when the time comes, youโll all join me in thanking them for all their efforts.
As per tradition the guys are putting on a โCaptains Runโ down at Coypool on Sunday 6th October and I would urge as many of you as possible to show up to support these legends after such a successful year. Itโll be all inclusive with all abilities catered for. Details will follow from the ๐จ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ฉ๐ปโโ๏ธโs.
Last thing from me is just to mention how proud I am of everyone with the way we integrate new faces in to the groups and make sure they feel at home. Itโs a daunting prospect, turning up at a running club for the first time, but you all seem to make sure no one is left alone and make all feel part of the club from day one. Remember our club ethos to support, inspire and motivate and we canโt go far wrong.
What a couple of months teamโฆ..keep doing what youโre all doing ๐โก๏ธ๐๐ป
Regards
Dave Mac
